AI Readiness Assessment

An AI readiness assessment checks whether your data, systems, governance and people are ready for AI tools such as Microsoft 365 Copilot. Umbrella Tech reviews information access, data quality, policies and staff capability for Australian organisations, then gives you a readiness profile, practical use cases and a prioritised list of gaps to close before deployment, so the rollout starts on solid ground.

When this assessment is useful

Use it before a Microsoft 365 Copilot pilot, before connecting AI to business systems, or when staff are already using AI tools without agreed rules. Some organisations call this an AI maturity assessment; our focus is practical AI readiness for the tools and use cases you have in mind. Broad permissions, unowned content and unclear acceptable use are easier to fix before an AI tool starts surfacing them.

Assessment scope

Use cases and people

Intended workflows, owners, staff capability and readiness for change.

Information and permissions

Data quality, sharing settings, sensitivity labels and oversharing in SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams.

Systems and integration

Identity in Microsoft Entra ID, licensing, platform constraints and the interfaces AI would need.

Governance

Acceptable-use rules, approvals, human oversight and AI risk management.

Evidence and access

We confirm what we need with your team before work starts and agree how it will be handled. Depending on scope, inputs may include tenant configuration reports, sharing and permission reports, policies, a list of candidate use cases and interviews with process owners.

Findings that lead to action

You receive a readiness profile across people, information, systems and governance, a short list of use cases worth pursuing and a prioritised remediation roadmap. The findings can guide a Copilot pilot, an AI integration or a broader adoption programme.

How it runs

Assessment method

01

Agree use cases and scope

Confirm the candidate use cases, the tools in view, the systems to review and who we need to speak with.

02

Review information and controls

Examine permissions, sharing, labelling, identity settings and policies against the intended use cases.

03

Talk to the people involved

Interview process owners and a sample of staff about how work is done today and where AI could help.

04

Prioritise and report

Rate readiness, explain each gap in business terms and set out a practical remediation sequence.

From assessment to remediation

We can take agreed recommendations through permission clean-up, policy work, a Microsoft 365 Copilot pilot and staff training, or you can use the roadmap with your internal team or existing provider. For governance gaps, AI Governance & Acceptable Use sets the rules staff work within.

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Ask us directly →

What does an AI readiness assessment include?

It covers use cases and people, information access and data quality, systems and integration, and governance. The scope can focus on Microsoft 365 Copilot readiness, including sharing, permissions and user adoption, or on a broader AI programme.

How long does the assessment take?

It depends on the number of use cases, the size of the environment and how quickly evidence and interviews can be arranged. We confirm scope and timing during discovery, before the assessment starts.

What evidence or access is required?

Usually read-only access to Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Entra ID reports, copies of relevant policies and time with process owners. We agree exactly what is needed and how it is handled before work begins.

What happens after the assessment?

We walk through the findings with your team and agree which items to fix first. You can then carry out remediation yourselves, with your existing provider or with Umbrella Tech.

How much does an AI readiness assessment cost?

Cost depends on scope: how many use cases, systems and people are involved and whether technical configuration reviews are included. We confirm scope and price once discovery is complete.
