Copilot readiness
Review tenant configuration, sharing, permissions, sensitivity labels and licensing against your intended use cases.
Microsoft 365 Copilot is Microsoft's AI assistant inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams, grounded in the documents, emails and chats each user can already access. Umbrella Tech prepares Australian organisations for it: we check Copilot readiness, fix oversharing, run a controlled pilot and rollout, and train staff on suitable tasks. You get useful adoption without surfacing information people should not see.
Copilot respects existing permissions, which means it also exposes existing permission problems. Sites shared with everyone, unowned content and missing sensitivity labels become visible the moment someone asks the right question. A rollout needs clear use cases, content ownership and staff guidance as well as licences.
The aim is controlled adoption with evidence that Copilot helps with the agreed tasks. Access and sharing are assessed before each expansion, and your team receives guidance to keep permissions in shape as content grows. Copilot for Microsoft 365, as it was first named, is only as good as the tenant behind it, so this work often follows a Microsoft 365 Environment Review.
Review tenant configuration, sharing, permissions, sensitivity labels and licensing against your intended use cases.
Reduce oversharing, assign content owners and apply Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels where needed.
Select representative users, define evaluation tasks and agree acceptable-use guidance.
Stage the rollout, deliver role-based training and capture feedback.
Where it adds value, build agents in Copilot Studio, Microsoft's tool for creating custom agents that work with Copilot.
Copilot works within each user's existing permissions, so the main control is getting those permissions right. We also review data loss prevention, sensitivity labels, retention, audit logging and acceptable-use rules, and align the rollout with your Microsoft 365 Security settings and AI Governance & Acceptable Use policy.

It is an AI assistant built into Microsoft 365 apps that drafts, summarises and answers questions using your organisation's content through Microsoft Graph. It requires a separate Copilot licence on top of an eligible Microsoft 365 plan.
When staff spend significant time drafting, summarising meetings, searching for documents or working through email, and your Microsoft 365 information is reasonably well organised. If permissions are untidy, start with readiness work before buying licences at scale.
A readiness review, remediation of the issues found, a pilot with defined tasks and measures, a staged rollout and role-based training. Each stage ends with a decision to expand, adjust or pause.
It depends on the state of your permissions and content, the number of users and how much remediation the readiness review finds. We confirm scope and timing during discovery.
Copilot can surface anything a user already has access to, so oversharing is the main risk. Sensitivity labels, data loss prevention, audit logging and clear acceptable-use rules complete the picture, and we review them before the rollout so it does not amplify existing access problems.
Tell us how many people you want using Copilot and what concerns you about your data, and we will plan a sensible first stage.
