Uplift design
Plan the configuration, licensing and process changes needed for each strategy at the target level.
Essential Eight implementation is the work of bringing each of the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) Essential Eight strategies up to an agreed maturity level. Umbrella Tech turns assessment findings into staged configuration, tooling and process changes across Microsoft 365, Windows endpoints and servers, tests each change, and records the evidence that shows the target controls are in place and working.
An assessment report lists what is missing but not how to fix it without breaking line-of-business applications or frustrating staff. Application control, macro restrictions and admin rights changes in particular need testing, communication and a fallback before they reach every device.
Controls that meet the agreed maturity level across the systems in scope, recorded exceptions with owners and review dates, and evidence your team can produce at the next assessment. You also receive a handover covering how to keep patching, backups and access controls at that level.
Plan the configuration, licensing and process changes needed for each strategy at the target level.
Roll changes out to pilot groups first, then the wider fleet, accounting for application dependencies and user impact.
Enforce multi-factor authentication, separate administrative accounts and reduce standing privileges using Microsoft Entra ID and endpoint management.
Test each change, review exceptions and record evidence of coverage.
Document the operating routines that keep maturity from drifting back.
Review the latest assessment, or run a short one, and agree the target level and scope.
Order the work by risk and dependency, with pilot groups, change windows and rollback steps agreed.
Apply changes in stages, test them with users, and fix issues before widening the rollout.
Record the configuration and test results, update exceptions and brief the team who will operate the controls.
The Essential Eight is a set of eight mitigation strategies published by ASD, measured using ASD's Essential Eight Maturity Model. ASD recommends reaching the same maturity level across all eight strategies before aiming higher.

It is the technical and process work that moves your environment from its current maturity to the target level for each strategy. It covers configuration changes, new tooling where needed, operating routines and the evidence that proves the result.
After an Essential Eight Assessment or similar review has identified gaps, or when a contract, insurer or framework sets a maturity target you need to meet. We can also work from an assessment by another provider once we have confirmed it reflects the current environment.
Design, staged deployment, testing, exception management, documentation and handover for the strategies in scope. Common work includes multi-factor authentication, admin account separation, patch automation, macro restrictions, application control and backup testing.
It depends on the starting maturity, the target level, the number of devices and applications, and how much change users can absorb at once. We confirm scope and timing in discovery and plan the work in stages you can approve one at a time.
Changes to privileges and application control can stop legitimate work if they are not tested, so every stage has a pilot and a rollback. Exceptions need a named owner and review date, and responsibility for keeping controls current must be clear between your team and any MSP.
Share your latest assessment or tell us the maturity level you need to reach. We will help plan a staged path to get there.
