Cybersecurity Uplift

Cyber security uplift is a planned programme that turns assessment or audit findings into implemented, tested controls. Umbrella Tech helps Australian organisations prioritise the work, strengthen identity, endpoint, Microsoft 365 and network controls, and validate each change. The result is visible progress with named owners, rather than a report that sits on a shelf.

The problem

The challenge we help you address

An audit can identify weaknesses without changing anything. Progress stalls when actions have no owner, fixes depend on other projects, or teams are wary of introducing controls such as multi-factor authentication (MFA) that might disrupt users.

The outcome

What the engagement should deliver

A cyber security improvement programme should leave you with implemented controls, visible progress against the roadmap and a manageable path for further work. Remaining risks and exceptions are recorded so decision-makers can accept, treat or revisit them.

How we can help

Remediation planning

Sequence actions by risk, dependencies and operational impact, starting from your existing assessment or a new one.

Identity and access

Enforce MFA, tighten administrator roles and introduce Conditional Access policies in Microsoft Entra ID.

Devices and Microsoft 365

Configure Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Defender, and close gaps in email protection and external sharing.

Network controls

Improve firewall policy, segmentation and remote access where the findings call for it.

Validation and ownership

Test each change, record evidence and assign responsibility for maintaining controls.

How we deliver

How an uplift programme runs

01

Confirm the baseline

Review the existing findings, confirm they are still current and agree which ones the programme will address.

02

Prioritise

Group actions into stages by risk reduction, effort and dependencies, so the early stages deliver the most protection.

03

Implement in stages

Deliver each stage with pilot users, change approval and a rollback plan for anything that affects sign-in or access.

04

Validate and report

Test the changes, update the findings register and show leadership what has improved and what remains.

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Ask us directly →

What is cyber security uplift?

It is the work of putting security findings into practice: changing configuration, introducing controls and confirming they work. Uplift follows an assessment and finishes when the agreed controls are implemented, tested and owned.

When should a business use it?

When you have findings from an assessment, audit, insurer questionnaire or framework gap analysis and need them resolved. If you do not have a current baseline, start with a cybersecurity assessment.

What does implementation include?

Configuration changes across identity, devices, Microsoft 365 and networks, plus user communication, testing and documentation. We can work from an existing assessment after confirming its scope and currency and validating the findings that drive the plan.

How long does an uplift project take?

It depends on the number of findings, the systems involved, available change windows and how much your team needs to be involved. Stages and timing are confirmed in discovery, and each stage has its own scope.

What are the main security or governance considerations?

Changes to sign-in and device controls can lock people out if rushed, so we pilot them and keep emergency access in place. Where a framework such as the Essential Eight or ISO/IEC 27001 applies, our Governance & Compliance services map each change to the evidence it should produce.
