Stakeholder discovery
Capture objectives, user requirements, constraints and who makes which decisions.
Project discovery is the investigation that turns a technology idea into a defined, deliverable scope before design and spending begin. Umbrella Tech carries out IT project scoping for Australian organisations: we clarify objectives and requirements, examine the systems involved, and give you a written scope with deliverables, exclusions, assumptions and acceptance criteria, so estimates and decisions rest on evidence.
A brief can describe the result you want without revealing the data dependencies, legacy constraints or approvals that drive effort and risk. When those unknowns surface mid-project, budgets and timelines move and trust suffers.
A discovery record and a scope that gives design and delivery teams a clear starting point. Unresolved questions are made visible rather than hidden inside an estimate, and you can decide whether, how and when to proceed.
Capture objectives, user requirements, constraints and who makes which decisions.
Examine existing systems, integrations, data and the relevant security or governance requirements.
Compare approaches where more than one is viable, with the trade-offs explained.
Document deliverables, exclusions, assumptions, risks and acceptance criteria.
Agree the objective, the people to involve and the questions discovery must answer.
Run interviews and examine systems, data and integrations.
Compare options and draft the scope with the decision makers.
Review the scope, resolve open questions and agree the next step.
Discovery is where security, privacy and compliance requirements are easiest to capture. We record which data the project touches, who must approve changes and any framework obligations, so they are designed in rather than found at testing.

A short, focused stage at the start of a project that investigates requirements, systems and constraints and produces an agreed scope. It reduces the risk of committing to an approach before the facts are known.
Before committing budget to a project with unclear requirements, several stakeholders, legacy systems or integrations, or when quotes for the same work vary widely. Where the question is broader strategy, Technology Advisory may be the better start.
The scope feeds Solution Design and then implementation, testing and handover through Technology Project Delivery. You can also take the scope to another provider.
It depends on the number of stakeholders and systems, the documentation available and how quickly decisions can be made. Scope and timing for discovery itself are confirmed when we first talk.
That is useful information. We explain what the evidence means, compare the available options and update the scope before further delivery commitments.
Tell us what you want to achieve and what you already know about the systems involved. We will help define a practical starting point.
