Endpoint Security

Endpoint security protects the laptops, desktops, servers and mobile devices your people use to reach business systems. Umbrella Tech helps Australian organisations bring devices under management, deploy endpoint protection with endpoint detection and response (EDR), most often Microsoft Defender for Endpoint with Microsoft Intune, and set up a clear process for handling alerts, so every device is covered and someone acts when it matters.

The problem

The challenge we help you address

Unmanaged devices, inconsistent security policies and alerts without a response owner create avoidable exposure. A protection tool needs a reliable deployment process and an operating model behind it.

The outcome

What the engagement should deliver

You gain visibility of protected devices and clear responsibilities for EDR alerts. We document the configuration and validate deployment coverage before handover, so gaps are known rather than assumed.

How we can help

Device coverage

Identify supported platforms, unmanaged devices and deployment requirements.

Device management

Enrol devices in Microsoft Intune and apply compliance, update and configuration policies.

Protection configuration

Tune antivirus, attack surface reduction rules and application control to the agreed risks.

Response readiness

Define alert handling, escalation, device isolation and recovery procedures.

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is Microsoft's endpoint protection and EDR platform, part of the Microsoft Defender family. It comes as Plan 1 and Plan 2, with Microsoft Defender for Business aimed at smaller organisations, and the features available depend on the licence. We assess readiness, plan onboarding through Microsoft Intune or another supported method, configure policies and confirm every device in scope is reporting. Where a different EDR product is already in place, we review its coverage and configuration rather than assume it needs replacing.

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Ask us directly →

What is endpoint security?

It is the set of controls that protect individual devices: management, patching, antivirus, EDR, encryption and application control. EDR adds continuous monitoring and investigation, so suspicious behaviour can be detected and contained, not only known malware blocked.

When should a business use it?

When you cannot say how many devices you have or whether they are all protected, when staff work remotely on company devices, or when an insurer or framework asks about EDR and patching.

What does implementation include?

Device discovery, Intune enrolment, Defender for Endpoint onboarding and policy configuration, pilot testing, a response process and documentation. Licensing, platform support and response responsibilities are confirmed in discovery.

How long does a project take?

It depends on the number and types of devices, how many are already managed and how much policy tuning is needed to avoid disrupting applications. Scope and timing are confirmed in discovery.

What are the main security or governance considerations?

Alerts need an owner, whether that is your team, your MSP or a managed detection service. Controls such as application control should be piloted first, and the Essential Eight strategies for patching and application control give a useful benchmark. Device controls also underpin Microsoft 365 Security.
