Network & Infrastructure Assessments

A network health check is a structured review of how your network and supporting infrastructure are designed, configured and performing. Umbrella Tech carries out network assessments for Australian organisations dealing with recurring faults, slow performance, ageing equipment or an environment nobody fully understands. You receive clear findings, risk priorities and a remediation roadmap you can act on with us or with your own team.

When this assessment is useful

Use it before a major upgrade or relocation, when faults keep returning, after a change of IT provider, or when equipment is approaching end of support. Recurring problems are often symptoms of capacity limits, inconsistent configuration or unclear dependencies, and a structured network audit finds the cause before money is spent.

Assessment scope

Network design

Review topology, segmentation, routing, Wi-Fi and the links between sites.

Configuration

Examine switch, firewall and wireless configuration for consistency, security and supportability.

Condition and capacity

Check equipment support status, utilisation, errors and available performance data.

Infrastructure context

Review the server, cloud, backup and disaster recovery dependencies agreed in scope.

Evidence and access

We confirm what we need at the start, and work from read-only access wherever possible. Depending on scope, inputs may include network diagrams, configuration exports, equipment and licence inventories, monitoring data, previous reports and interviews with your network team. How the evidence is handled and stored is agreed with your team.

Findings that lead to action

You receive a current-state report, a findings register ranked by risk and effort, and an improvement roadmap. The broader infrastructure view complements a focused firewall audit when the problem extends beyond security policy.

Assessment method

01

Confirm the scope

Agree the sites, systems, questions to answer and methods. Identify exclusions and anything that needs a planned change window.

02

Gather and examine evidence

Review configuration, diagrams and performance data. Speak with the people responsible and validate important observations.

03

Prioritise and plan

Explain each finding and its business impact, then set out recommendations, dependencies and a practical sequence.

04

Review the next steps

Walk through the findings with your team and agree what needs further investigation and what can move to implementation.

From assessment to remediation

We can take agreed recommendations through design, implementation and validation as part of our Network & Infrastructure services. You can also use the roadmap with your internal team or existing technology provider. Implementation scope is set from the findings.

Frequently asked questions

Can't see your question? Ask us directly →

What does a network health check include?

A review of design, configuration, equipment condition, capacity and the infrastructure dependencies in scope, followed by a findings register and a prioritised roadmap. It can include firewall, switching, Wi-Fi and WAN.

How long does the assessment take?

It depends on the number of sites and devices, the evidence available and how quickly access can be arranged. Scope and timing are confirmed in discovery.

What evidence or access is required?

Usually diagrams, configuration exports, inventories and time with the people who manage the network. Read-only access is preferred, and testing that could affect production is agreed in advance.

What happens after the assessment?

We walk you through the findings. You can ask us to deliver the remediation through Technology Project Delivery, hand the roadmap to your provider, or address it internally.

How much does a network assessment cost?

Cost depends on the number of sites and systems, the depth of review and the evidence available. Scope, timing and price are confirmed in discovery before work starts.
