Detailed specification
Define configuration, integration behaviour, naming and deployment requirements.
IT solution design turns an agreed architecture and scope into an implementation-ready specification: the configuration, integrations, access, cutover, rollback and tests a delivery team needs to build it consistently. Umbrella Tech produces solution designs for Australian organisations and IT providers, so implementation starts from decisions already made rather than ones improvised on the day.
High-level diagrams leave important decisions unresolved. Without clear settings, access boundaries, migration steps and tests, different engineers build different results, and nobody can say later why something was configured the way it was.
A practical delivery reference that reduces ambiguity, with architecture decisions traceable through configuration, testing and handover. Implementation teams know what to build, in what order, and how to prove it works.
Define configuration, integration behaviour, naming and deployment requirements.
Set access boundaries, administrative roles, logging and data handling within the solution.
Plan implementation stages, cutover, rollback and operational dependencies.
Establish technical checks, business scenarios and acceptance evidence.
Solution architecture decides the overall shape of a solution: which platforms, how they connect and why. Solution design works one level down and specifies how that architecture will be built and tested. If the architecture is not yet settled, start with Solution Architecture in our Technology Advisory services.
Review the architecture, scope and requirements, and resolve open questions.
Write the configuration, integration and security detail.
Sequence the build, cutover and rollback steps.
Walk the design through with the delivery and operating teams before build.

The detailed specification of how a technology solution will be built, configured, integrated, tested and handed over. It sits between architecture and implementation.
When a project involves several systems or teams, when work will be delivered by a different team from the one that planned it, or when the result must meet security or compliance requirements that need evidence.
Building and configuring to the design, recording any deviations, testing against the prepared cases and handover. We can deliver it through Technology Project Delivery, or another team can build from the design. We can also work from architecture created by another team.
It depends on the number of systems and integrations, how settled the architecture is and how quickly decisions can be made. Scope and timing are confirmed in discovery.
Least-privilege access, separation of administrative roles, logging, data location and handling, and a record of who approved each design decision. These are specified up front so they are tested, not assumed.
Tell us what has been decided so far and what the delivery team still needs. We will help define a practical starting point.
